Sorry for disappearing for such a long while!

Everything just got on top of me and I had a really weird and low couple of months.
I just needed to vanish down the rabbit hole for while.  
It seems to be over and I'm climbing out a bit at a time.

I got some things sorted and finally started drawing again last week.

Jan  “Janek” Marsalek  (28)

Jan is from a Czech Russian family. He fought in the red army but eventually left, bringing back with him a pregnant Yelena who he eventually marries. Jan gets on well with Yelena's daughter Eva who he considers to be his own flesh and blood.

Yelena was a Russian good-time-girl on the front line and was pregnant before she met Jan. The two became close and he brought her home and later married her. She's illiterate and hates to be looked down upon because of it.

She maintains a tiny herb garden with her mother her mother and reads with her father. She has decided she wants to write a great important novel someday but has no idea what it'll be about (...maybe cats).

Character: Helen St Marcus (some info possibly subject to change in future!)

1. She is 22. She doesn't speak to (or about) her family.
   
2. She is a single mother and has a 5 year old daughter called Emily which Tanya helps her look after.
   
3. She works as a tailor and at the "unofficial" market at a stall she shares with her friend and flatmate, Tanya. They fix and modify clothing as well as making new things on commission.
   
4. She and Tanya dress up elaborately and sport unusual hairstyles (and wigs) when they run their stall (and outside of it).
5. They also make various other things which they sell (black market fabric, pre-made clothing, bed covers, soft toys (Tanya's hobby). Exactly what they have will vary.
   
6. She lives in the same apartment building as Olivier.
7. She keeps a variety of potted plants outside her flat (She and Emily choose the flowers together and Emily looks after them. Emily keeps record of how often to water them in a notebook which she carries around).
   
8. She is partly responsible for obtaining 'goods' and organising the black market (along with Roger Ramsgate Lewis and others). She's cheerful and social and values the friends she has made through it.
